NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme) is a south africa organisation that is undergovernment that help south african students with loans. NSFAS loan is a bursary and a loan, you need to pay it back when you are working and a certain salary figure. NSFAS has sent my details to the debtor collect, the debtor collector called me and harrasing me everyday. Even though i was paying my NSFAS monthly, it took me 2 years to stop the debtor collector, i had to send multiple emails to NSFAS with proof of payment. Studying in South Africa is not FREE.

Who qualifies to receive NSFAS?

  1. Students that are studying at a public tertiary, private colleges are not being funded by NSFAS. You must confirm with your college before sending an application.
  2. You must not be receiving a R350 SASSA Grant, Receive a SASSA Child grant doesnt disqualify you from NSFAS as the child grant is for the baby not the parent
  3. Both your parents or guardians must receive a salary of less than R350 000 in a year.

How to cancell NSFAS, why would you need to cancel your NSFAS? When you have been accepted by NSFAS but you cant find a college to study. You dont have to cancel your NSFAS since they wont pay anybody since you are not a student.
If you registered at a college for some reason you want to withdraw, you need to de-register with your college.

What documents are required to apply for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme. Documents that are needed to apply for NSFAS

  1. You need to have a valid email address
  2. Scanned copies of your identity documents as pdf
  3. Scanned copies of your guardian/parents as pdf
  4. Proof of income for your guardian/parents
Pdf is a prefered document but you can use other accepted documents types as well, Does NSFAS require ID to be certified? no it doesnt need to certified.

NSFAS does cover supplementary exams, sometimes they take time to pay, when you have pending results you can pay your supplementary exams fees then NSFAS will credit you. This will reflect as a refund. If you failed your supplementary exams NSFAS will not pay.

NSFAS statuses and meanings

  1. Funding eligible without admission. You need to go to school and get an allowance form. You are funded.
  2. Eligible for funding but awaiting confirmation of academic admission, it means the samething as above, you need to go back to your college and get an allowance form.

Does berea college take NSFAS? All private colleges dont take NSFAS , only public colleges take NSFAS.
